Moon and Venus

Approaching Fall equinox, our new moonth begins with beautiful alignments as Moon past Venus in the evening sky. This is the 2nd to last time we can see the Moon and Venus in the evening before Venus stations retrograde, and begins to wane, visibly loosing brightness and lowering nearer to the Sunset in the evening sky; and ultimately departing from the evening through the portal of the Sun to appear in the morning sky once more.

Next moonth the Moon will pass by a much dimmed Venus around the first moonthlight, and these following moonth Venus will grace our evening skies no longer, as she will be beginning her morning and waxing phases.

Venus retrograde station in the evening sky is Friday 10/02/2026 at ~9:15pm, Hawaii Time. Venus will remain visible, but evidently fade and lower toward the Sunset.

Venus’ near Earth conjunction occurs about 3 weeks later on 10/23/2026 at ~5:45 PM Hawaii time, the midpoint of Venus passing between the Sun and Earth, reflecting all the Sun’s light away from us back toward the Sun. Not so unlike the moment of the dark moon, the “New Moon” that is, when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun.

Venus will station direct 3 weeks later on Friday 11/13/2026 ~2:30PM Hawaii time, and will be well visible in the morning sky by then. Much like what most observation based practices call the New Moon, which is to say the first appearance(s) of the moonthlight. Venus will steadily grow in brightness in the morning sky for some time after this, making for beautiful alignments between Venus in her activating morning stages, and the Moon in her waning crescent morning stages.
